Focus Police Academy Free Art Program for autistic and special needs kids

We are proud to announce that Focus Comics will be launching a free 3 week Focus Police Academy art program in Avondale, Arizona commencing Sunday 13th August. We have two online workshops plus an in person graduation event. Last date to sign up is 12th August, 1pm. The remote classes are divided into beginners classes and intermediate classes in a group setting online. One to one classes are available based on student needs and availability (of the student and teachers).

Duration: 3 weeks.

Week1: Sunday 13th August at 2pm on Zoom – Students will learn how to draw Focus the autistic super hero in an Avondale police car. Students will learn how to draw this step by step with Award winning Artist Yvonne Wan and Douglas Hebert.

Week 2: Sunday 20th August at 2pm on Zoom – Students will learn how to draw Focus the autistic super hero in an Avondale SWAT vehicle.

Week 3: Saturday 26th August at 10am: Graduates will meet us at Avondale Police Station to receive their certificates of achievement featuring their art that resembles a Focus comic cover; and gifts. The students will have a class of 2023 photo with the local police officers and Focus Creator Yvonne Wan, and Focus comic artist Douglas Hebert. There will be complimentary pizza for our graduates and their family.

Class duration: Each Class will be 40-60 minutes in duration.

We will have the intermediate class taking place at 2pm. The beginners class will take place at 3pm. Students will attend either the intermediate or beginners class. One to one classes take place by appointment only.

For: Avondale kids with autism and or special needs. (Kids that live, study or receive therapy within Avondale Arizona). Non-Avondale kids can sign up for other programs later on in the year.

Ages: 6-17.

Rewards: Students who graduate from this program will receive Police gifts and Focus gifts.

Art supplies needed: Printer size plain paper, pencil, long and short ruler, eraser, black marker and any coloring pens, markers or crayons you have at home. If you need help with supplies, please contact Yvonne at 480 787 6729 to collect the items locally in Avondale.

Students are required to submit scans of their art work to the teacher within 24 hours of class so we can track the students progress, share their art online, and design a special certificate featuring the childs art that resembles a Focus comic cover.

A students place on the program is not secured until the applicant receives a confirmation email from Focus comics. We have limited spots on the program so we recommend you apply as soon as possible.

This 3 week art program is partially funded by an Avondale arts and culture grant (the gifts are from Avondale Police and Focus Comics). Thank you City of Avondale for their support.
