Focus comic are proud to announce that it is launching a free Focus Police Academy Art program for Autistic and or Special needs students. This two week program takes place virtually on zoom on Sunday August 18th at 2pm on Zoom, plus an in person Graduation event at Surprise Police Station Saturday 24th August at 10am to 11.30am. If you cannot attend Aug 18th, you can schedule a one to one class with Yvonne any time between now and Aug 22nd August. A limited number of In person classes are available for those who need extra support.
For this program, our students will learn how to draw a police motor cycle and also honor Traffic Officer Defazio of Surprise Police Department by drawing him as a comic character model. Students will get to meet Officer Defazio on Zoom along side Focus Comic Creator Yvonne Wan. Officer Defazio will introduce the students to the role of the police force, the work he does, and the vehicles and equipment that he uses on duty. He will also talk about the hero work that the police force does in the community. There will be Q&A session, followed by an art class where Miss Yvonne Wan will teach the students how to draw a motor cycle. Advanced students will be introduced to the grid system of drawing. Intermediate and beginner students will learn other drawing techniques. The students will present their art to their class mates at the end of the class. The teacher will then color the students art professionally in time for the students in person graduation event, so that their art will be featured on a custom certificate of achievement that resembles a Focus comic cover.
Graduation event: Surprise Police Department are proud to support Focus comics by providing the best immersive Police Academy experience they can at the in person graduation event. The event will start with a class of 2024 Focus Police Academy photo of the students and local police heroes in the picture. Students will also have a photo op of them receiving their certificates and graduation gifts (Challenge coins that resemble heavy medals) on stage. The students will explore the world of local police heroes by interacting with a broad range of police vehicles including SWAT vehicles, police patrol cars and trucks and get to sit on the police motor cycle. Students will also get to meet different police officers and the swat team. There will be interactive demonstrations at the event, including state of the art drones, and bomb disposal robots and other cool equipment and tools for the graduates to explore. This will be an amazing experience for our Focus Police Academy graduates, their siblings and parents.
Gifts: Graduates who successfully complete the Focus Police Academy Art program will receive gifts at graduation to celebrate their accomplishments.
