United Humanities Project: Focus Comic Advisory Board Minute Meeting Minutes
Date: Sunday 30th August 2026
Time: 1.30pm Location: Island Burger Restaurant
Advisory Board Members Attending: Yvonne Wan (Social Cultural Anthropologist/Artist/Educator), David Shuler(Veteran), John Sanders(Journalist), Jill Voit(Educator), Debbie Musselman(Fire Service), Gabriel Howell(Active Airman).
Team members / Guests Attending: Nolan Radoslovich (Intern). Dominic Radoslovich (Veteran, also Nolans father). Phoenix Pacheco (Photographer) and her assistant. Dan Moran (Phoenix Fire fighter, and son of fallen fire fighter Luke Moran) and his grandparents. Jenny Quintero (Mother to one of our students who has down syndrome and autism combined. Logistics).
Absent: Photographers: Reiker and Yoseph. Scott Figgins (Fire Service). Deborah Edenhofer (Mother to fallen AZDPS officer Tyler Edenhofer).
The Purpose of the Advisory Board Meeting was to connect our board members and guests in person with a meet and greet to facilitate future communications in relation to the Legends Event.
We also gathered so we can capture official headshots of our team members for our organization page online.
Strategic Feedback:
The Legends event typically requires 3 months work (2 months of planning plus a month of post production editing (documenting the event using film and photography, and handling press releases and updating the website and socials, and disseminating the content among the guests and creating post event marketing material).
We are hoping to host the event possibly in November, or the first two weeks of December or possibly 2027 depending when we can secure the funding (sponsors) to make it happen.
We are considering the option of hosting the event at Zinc Apartments club house in Avondale, although other venues are options.
We have a sponsorship letter which offers organizations the option of a charitable tax write off through our charity fiscal sponsor.
We will request an honor guard for the presentation of colors, and another honor guard for the riffle arc or saber arc ceremony.
An event date will be set immediately once we have sponsors.
We will send an invite to dignitaries, and advertise for nominations as soon as an event date is set. Dignitaries that we plan on inviting include Governor Hobbs and the Royal family.
We will ensure we have adequate team members assigned to different roles to ensure things go smoothly and on schedule. We will aim to have 3 photographers to cover the event. Yvonne will cover the filming.
It may be meaningful to invite sponsors to nominate veterans/first responders for the Legends event.
Nolan will continue receiving training as part of his internship. We are trying to get more retail partners on board.
The families of the following fallen heroes have expressed an interest in accepting a legends awards: Luke Moran. Tyler Edenhofer. Others TBC.
The following individuals have expressed an interest in being nominated for a legends award: Debbie Musselman (Fire Service), Dominic Rodoslovic (USMC vet), Nick Stranger(USAF active military). Others tbc. We will advertise for nominations once the plans are locked in place.
We are seeking more volunteers to assist with grant writing / finding sponsors / retail partners. We are seeking additional photographer volunteers, and volunteers to assist with admin.
We will continue to plan monthly community outreach events to support our interns and promote the cause.
We plan on running an art program along side Legends event.
We are also seeking a company truck so we can transport our tents to events and deliver portraits to funerals and teach.
Action items:
- Yvonne to share the sponsorship letter with the board members.Before Sept 6
- Board members and team members to distribute the sponsorship letter to organizations who may be able to sponsor the Legends event. During September.
- Aim to find sponsors before the end of September.
- Yvonne and John to continue with grant writing and applying for sponsors throughout September.
- David to see if he can fix the class room anker projector by the end of this month.
- We are hoping to find someone within our network who can help us secure 12 months complimentary company truck lease, or a truck donation.
Future Planning: The date and time of the next meeting is TBC.
