Focus Comics champions autistic and special needs kids, super heroes and local heroes. We are proud to announce that Mike Bufford, an honorable member of the VFW in Fountain Hills has been selected for this years Hero of the Year Award (2024), within the US Navy category. We look forward to presenting him with our Focus Comics Hero of the year award Trophy on 27th April 2024 at our venue : Samurai comics store in Glendale at 10am. Mike will be one of our guest speakers that day along side other honorable heroes in the community.
Our Focus comic autistic and special needs students look forward to meeting Mike, and our local heroes at their military vehicle art graduation event in celebration of Autism acceptance month. Our hope is to include as many local heroes in our students class photo for 2024.
“I spent 4 years in United States Navy as a Quartermaster (navigation). Did a tour of Vietnam. After Navy I became a journeyman Cabinetmaker. Then worked at Lockheed Martin for 24 years in Sunnyvale California in the mock-up shop. I was married for 47 years to my wife Carol. We raised 4 wonderful children. After my wife passed away in 2016, I moved to Fountain Hills AZ where I joined the VFW Post 7507, the men’s Club, and volunteer to work at the River of Time Museum. ” Mike Bufford.
Our Focus Comic creator Yvonne Wan, used to volunteer at the VFW during her time in Fountain hills and remains in close contact with her VFW family. “The Focus Comics Hero awards is a celebration honoring local heroes for their courage; sacrifice, selfless service, patriotism, compassion and leadership. It is an honor to present this award to Mike Bufford for embodying the values and ideals of the nation. Our Focus Comic autistic and special needs students look forward to meeting Mike in person.
