Focus comic United Humanities Project Hero award recipient: Gary Michiel Montiel US Army E4 2001-2005.
Congratulations to Mike Montiel for being awarded with our Heroes award within the U.S. Army category.
Mike Montiel is an Arizona native and a proud member of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona. He is a combat army veteran and served honorably from 2001 to 2005. Mike served as an artilleryman for 2 years and an infantryman for 2 years, he deployed to Kosovo on a peacekeeping mission for 6 months in 2002 and a combat mission to Iraq for 13 months in 2004. He was decorated multiple times including the Army Good conduct and Army Commendation Medal for valor in combat. He is an alumni of Arizona State University and has been an entrepreneur and taugth junior high in his hometown in the past. Mike now works extensively in community development and veterans service organization providing leadership and inspiration to those around him as he embraces the ethos of “Never broken by hardship nor battle”.
