On July 25, 2018, Trooper Edenhofer was shot and killed in the line of duty. Trooper Edenhofer and his Field Trainer responded to a request for assistance on Interstate 10 in Avondale following reports of a man throwing debris at passing vehicles. When they arrived on the scene, the suspect got into a physical altercation with the troopers and obtained control of a service weapon, firing two shots. Trooper Edenhofer and another trooper were both shot and rushed to the hospital, where Trooper Edenhofer died of his wounds.
Trooper Edenhofer was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served with AZDPS since September of 2017.
