We are proud to celebrate autism awareness month by launching a month of free art programming for children of local heroes (military and first responders) plus autistic and special needs students.

We are almost 3 weeks into our Hero art program. This week we focused on serving autistic and special needs students in Surprise; Phoenix, Peoria, Goodyear and Avondale (We are serving many cities within Maricopa throughout April). Thank you Yvonne Wan for volunteering her time at Inspire Academy for autistic kids; Seeds for Autism school, home visits for students who are home-schooled, and on line zoom classes. Our students valued the large and small group and individualized learning opportunities with Comic creator Yvonne Wan (who has a Masters of Science, in Social Cultural Anthropology which includes anthropological perspectives on psychiatry and psychology).

This week, our autistic and special needs students were presented with coloring sheets of Focus the autistic super hero driving a Sun City and Phoenix fire truck. They were also presented with coloring sheets of our Luke Air Force F35 fighter jet, and MSCO autistic Pony, US NAVY/ US Marines LARC-V vehicle and US Army Tank that Yvonne had drawn for the students. Our students learned about the important hero work that the military and first responders perform in the community. Yvonne Wan, our Focus comic creator introduced our students how to apply different water color techniques, including gradation, textures and layers (Wet on Wet and Wet on Dry brush techniques). Some of our students participated in the traditional medium technical drawing class, which included learning how to draw a US Navy / Marines LARC-V.

Check out our students art work. Next week, Yvonne Will be entering City of Glendale, and Avondale to teach more autistic and special needs students.
