Focus comics is proud to announce that we are accepting new students for our free 5 week “Focus comics and the U.S Hero adventures” art program commencing Sept 8 through to Sept 25th in Arizona.

Students can participate in all or just some of the art classes based on their availability. Group and one to one classes are available on zoom (online) and in person. We have classes available for beginners, intermediate students and advanced. The program includes an in person graduation event at Samurai comics Glendale. The graduation event will include an immersive military and first responder hero experience where the students get to meet their local heroes, explore military and first responder vehicles, engage in fun activities with different multi-agencies and be part of a special class photo of our graduates and local heroes. There will be free hotdogs for the for the first 200 attendees to arrive. Graduates also get rewarded with a celebrity voice acting class with British Actor Kevin McNally known for Pirates of the Caribbean, Down Town Abbey and Dr Who.

Cost: Free.

Who: Autistic and or special needs students 6-21 years of age

Where: Free Classes are in person or online zoom. Graduating at Samurai comics Glendale.

Format of learning: Choice of online or in person, group or one to one (one to one classes are subject to availability).

Class Dates:

  • One to one classes: Any week day or time by appointment (subject to teacher availability).
  • Group online class dates: September 8th, 15th and 22 on Zoom at 2pm (Advanced). Deadline to sign up is 25 September.

Graduation Date: September 28 2024 10am to noon.

Celebrity voice acting class (A reward for our graduates): September 29th 2pm-3pm

Class duration: Typically 40 minutes. Extra time is provided for those in need of extra support.

What you will learn: Immerse yourself into the world of military and first responder heroes through our comic drawing program. Learn how to master pencil and inking techniques with professional comic creator Yvonne Wan. Advanced students will learn how to draw using the grid system (incorporating math, physics and geometry). Other students will learn other technical drawing techniques focusing on basic shapes. Learn about the work of local military and first responder heroes and explore their technology, vehicles and equipment.

Vehicles we will learn how to draw: Black Hawk helicopter; Lenco Bear Cat Vehicle, plus F35A fighter jet.

What you will receive at graduation: Your childs art will be colored professionally into a custom certificate of achievement to resemble a Focus comic cover. You will also receive special limited edition Military and first responder agency gifts (USAF, MCSO and Rural Metro Fire). Graduates who earn 5 stars will receive a Rural Metro Fire Service and a Maricopa County Sheriffs Office challenge coin. Student of the month will receive a Super rare USAF Challenge Coin. They will be presented on stage as part of a prestigious awards ceremony.

Special Entertainment at graduation: Airman Basic Gabriel Howell will be our National Anthem Singer for the event.

Multi Agencies attending with guest speakers, Unit Support, Technology and equipment: Luke Air Force Base, US Air Force, US Army, US Navy, Rural Metro Fire, Maricopa County Sheriffs Department.

Special Vehicles planned (subject to availability): Mcso Lenco Bear Cat, Mcso Ghost Patrol Vehicles and various other hero vehicles. Mcso horses. Rural Metro Fire Engine. Students can enter the vehicles, explore them and activate the sirens.

Event includes: State of the art technology (robots/drones subject to availability), hero equipment and tools. Students can explore the SWAT team riot gear, full army and fire fighter gear and gas masks. Attendees can take photos. There will be fun demonstrations (such as cpr and self defence).
